Pitt Pediatrics is proud to announce Alison Culyba, MD, PhD, MPH, and the Empowering Teens to Thrive Program (ET3) at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has been awarded continued funding for 2026 and 2027 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. This program has been previously supported over the last few fiscal years, indicating the ongoing positive impact it has had in our Pittsburgh community.
This highly competitive grant program from the state of Pennsylvania will provide significant funding for the ET3 hospital-based violence intervention and community-based mentorship program. This award will also fund research on the impact of the program on the health and wellbeing of violently-injured youth.
Culyba is the Director of our Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, as well as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Public Health, and Clinical and Translational Science. She is also the Director of the Career Educational and Enhancement for Health Care Research Diversity (CEED) Program and the ET3 program.
The ET3 program is a partnership between UPMC Children’s and the Violence Prevention Initiative at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health designed to provide support to youth who present to our hospital following violent injuries. The program provides education and counseling, among other services, and links youth and families to support in their own neighborhoods in order to heal and prevent re-injury.
This support will enable the continuation of significant and important work in preventing youth and community violence in our Pittsburgh region, as well as ongoing research in effective means of care and support.
Join us in celebrating this ongoing fantastic work for Culyba and the ET3.
And follow us on Bluesky for future updates on faculty awards, grants, and recognitions.
