Dong Awarded R01 From NIDDK

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates H. Henry Dong, PhD for recently earning an R01 grant award for his research project, titled “Liver Prlr signaling in metabolic adaptation to pregnancy.” Dong is a Professor of Pediatrics in our Division of Endocrinology, as well as our Associate Vice Chair of Basic Research.

The goal of this project is to characterize prolactin signaling in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism in the liver. Dysregulation of liver metabolism, resulting from aberrant prolactin signaling, is a contributing factor for gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes affects up to 10% of all pregnancies in the US and with long-lasting adverse effects on the health of both mothers and infants. This project is expected to provide new insights into the mechanism of gestational diabetes. The NIDDK is providing funding for this project for the next four years.

Please join us in celebrating this wonderful news for Dr. Dong. And follow Pitt Pediatrics on Bluesky for future updates on faculty research, grants, and awards.
