Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Kristina Gaietto, MD for her Mentored Career Development Grant Award from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institute of Health (NIH). Gaietto is an Instructor of Pediatrics within the Division of Pulmonary Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics and a UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Scholar
Her goal for this proposal is to improve the diagnostic approach for T-helper 2-low (T2-low) pediatric asthma endotypes, and to identify which characteristics are associated with T2-low asthma endotypes in children.
“The hope is that by refining our diagnostic methods for and better understanding the clinical characteristics of these T2-low endotypes, which are not well understood yet, we can identify novel therapeutic targets for children with this type of asthma. We have several targeted treatments for children with T2-high asthma (a different type of asthma), and I am hopeful we can eventually also have targeted treatments for children with T2-low asthma. But the first step is better understanding the pathophysiology that drives T2-low asthma, which is what my Aims for this grant focus on,” said Gaietto.
This grant from the NIH lasts for 5 years. Please join us in congratulating Kristina Gaietto, MD on her grant and follow the Department of Pediatrics on Instagram and BlueSky for more updates and grants news.
