Rick Receives R01 Award

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates Anne-Marie Rick, MD, MPH, PhD for her recent R01 award for her project “Maternal RSV Vaccine Durability and Infant Protection Across Multiple Pregnancies”. Rick is an assistant professor of pediatrics and clinical and translational science with the Division of General Academic Pediatrics.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a leading cause of infant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The recent approval of the RSVpreF vaccine for pregnant women offers protection to newborns against RSV, but the durability of maternal immunity and its implications for future pregnancies remain unknown. This study aims to evaluate the long-term immunogenicity of RSVpreF in vaccinated pregnant women and assess whether vaccine-induced immunity is sufficient to protect infants born in subsequent pregnancies.

This study will determine how long RSV vaccine protection lasts for pregnant women and whether it is sufficient to protect infants in future pregnancies. By understanding the durability of maternal immunity, guide recommendations for booster vaccination and optimize RSV prevention strategies for infants can be given.
