Torok Lab Published in JAMA Dermatology

Pitt Pediatrics congratulates the Torok Lab group for their recent publication in JAMA Dermatology titled “Methotrexate and Mycophenolate Mofetil and Clinical Response in Juvenile Localized Scleroderma”.

This publication compared outcomes between immunomodulatory medications methotrexate and mycophenolate mofetil in the treatment of juvenile localized scleroderma and shows that treatment response is similar between the two medications, with mycophenolate mofetil having fewer adverse side effects. This study shows promise for both drugs in future clinical trials in juvenile localized scleroderma.

The Torok Lab is led by Kathryn S. Torok, MD and conducts “multiple juvenile scleroderma clinical and translational research studies”, including hosting the National RegiChildhood-Onsetood Onset Scleroderma (NRCOS) at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Pediatrics. The reserch study published uses results from the NRCROS, the largest clinical database and biorepository in juvenile scleroderma in the world.

The lab also thanks the patients enrolled in NRCOS for their continued participation and enthusiasm for pushing scleroderma research forward.
