Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship
The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship program at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh strives to be a national leader in the promotion of health equity and inclusive medical education while supporting fellows to become thoughtful clinicians, effective educators, productive investigators, and respected leaders. We select one fellow each year to complete our two-year hospital medicine fellowship program.

Who Should Apply for PHM Fellowship?
To apply for the two-year fellowship, physicians must have completed one of the following:
-
Pediatric residency.
-
Combined internal medicine-pediatric residency.
-
Triple-board program.
We welcome med-peds trained applicants and have opportunities for clinical experience on the adult internal medicine services at UPMC Presbyterian – Montefiore with mentorship from med-peds hospitalist faculty.
Study Hospital Medicine at a Top Children's Hospital
The PHM Fellowship program is headquartered at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, a member of UPMC Health System.
For the last eight years, Children's has made the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll of America’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” list.
What You Will See as a Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellow
We serve as the primary pediatric referral facility in the region and as a community hospital for children of the Pittsburgh area.
PHM fellows gain experience caring for children and adolescents with a wide range of disease states. Each year, more than 75,000 children are seen in the Emergency Department leading to more than 6,000 admissions to our Pediatric Hospital Medicine service. Fellows will also care for patients directly admitted from other facilities or clinics and patients transferred from our Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Fellows also provide consult services for patients on our Medical Surgical Co-Management Team.
Thus, PHM fellows will take on many roles to gain experience caring for children with a wide range of disease states.
Fellowship Overview
Over the course of their fellowship, Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellows will work with attending hospitalists in the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in addition to faculty members at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital, Sedation/Anesthesia faculty, and Community Hospital providers. Fellows will be responsible for teaching medical students and residents throughout their training.
