The Division of Endocrinology has greater than eight decades of excellence in the fields of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. An interdisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals provide outstanding healthcare and conduct research. Our team of 19 physicians, three PhD investigators, 11 Advance Practice Providers, nine Pediatric Endocrine fellows, 11 certified diabetes care and education specialists (previously called Diabetes Educators), one psychologist, nine Endocrine nurses, four dietitians and two medical social workers support the clinical care services and research.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Diabetes Association (ADA), Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES), UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Research Administration Committee, Cochrane Weber Research Foundation and other philanthropic organizations fund our cutting-edge research. Our division is committed to the training of fellows in pediatric endocrinology. This program is supported by the T32 Training Grant from NIH since 1995. Graduates of this program include seven chairs of Departments of Pediatrics (present or past), 25 Chiefs of Pediatric Endocrinology Divisions, six Center Directors, two leaders in industry, and an Associate Chief Information Officer, in addition to numerous academic pediatric endocrinologists.
Our faculty members and graduates have served and continue to serve in leadership roles in the Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), and the Androgen Excess-PCOS Society.
