Pitt Pediatrics operates a structured URiM Faculty Advancement Program with multiple components:
- Formal and consistent physician faculty onboarding when they enter employment
- Assigned formal mentor to each faculty member managed by each academic department
- Institutional mentorship committee based upon the guidelines of the National Center for Leadership in Academic Medicine
- Structured departmental goals
- Emphasize second look visits
- Prioritized promotion guidance, counseling, and support for URiM faculty in all promotion pathways
- Annual chair meetings focusing on propensity of junior faculty to stay and advance and establish expectations of URiM candidates to be considered for open positions
- Regular review by institutional mentorship committee to assure timely scholarly progress
